I received a B.S. in Secondary Business Education from Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan; I am an experienced "one-on-one" tutor in standard English grammar, and punctuation, for high school students. In addition, I have specialized in English as a Second Language (ESL) for professional adults from foreign countries, concentrating on their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Because my focus has been on individual tutoring, I am able to create personalized lesson plans that meet each student's needs.
During my college years, I was introduced to the world of creative writing by choosing to enroll in a Creative Writing course. I excelled in writing poetry in this class and went on to have three of my own poems published in the Detroit News, years after graduation. My college professor gave to me a solid foundation, and I excelled with confidence in my own writing endeavors, later helping my students to use English creatively in their writing endeavors at work and elsewhere.
In order to help my students excel, I focus on "standard" English grammar and punctuation rather than simple conversational English. The reason for this focus is to promote clarity in communication, whether verbal or written. I work with my students in speaking (including proper pronunciation), listening, reading, and writing.
Even though I have been a tutor for many years, I still find professional and personal satisfaction and joy in this work.
Rather than having a one-size-fits-all approach, I interact with my students, listening to their concerns and needs so that I can prepare a plan that will work for each student. My approach allows my students to meet their own goals in a fun and creative environment. I give my student a strong foundation from which they can build upon.
If you are interested in talking with me further, please feel free to e-mail me. I am happy to discuss scheduling to meet your needs and to discuss your current concerns before our first lesson.
