I have a Master's degree from Wayne State University and an English degree from Oakland University. I have been teaching English Language Arts for 30 years, and I love it! I pride myself in helping students master any area of struggle they may find themselves facing in this content area. I have worked with highly successful honor students, students performing in a regular English classroom, as well as struggling students who have fallen behind grade level expectations. Most of my experience ranges from 7th-9th grade; however, I also have experience with high school ELA due to my two teens at home and my student teaching experience years ago. I have spent summers tutoring high school students for improvement on the SAT, successfully so.
I have been very successful in helping all students learn, and I have a knack for making the difficult seem simple. I am highly motivated and very good at the craft of teaching. I enjoy engaging students through their interests and use a variety of tools to do so.
I am well versed in reading for comprehension, essay writing, short response writing, grammar and punctuation applications, as well as vocabulary building and comprehension. I specialize in grades 7-9 but can also address the learning standards set forth by the State of Michigan Education Department for all grades.
I look forward to helping you achieve your goals!
