Bio

Hi! I'm Sophie. I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor's degree in English from the University of Michigan. In college, I realized that the classes I loved most weren't necessarily about the topics themselves—they were about the professors who made the material come alive. I want to bring that same energy to tutoring.

Hi! I'm Sophie. I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor's degree in English from the University of Michigan. In college, I realized that the classes I loved most weren't necessarily about the topics themselves—they were about the professors who made the material come alive. I want to bring that same energy to tutoring.

I have a year of classroom teaching experience with high school students in grades 9–12 ELA, and I've been working with young people for over eleven years—eight years as a nanny and three years in professional childcare at the YMCA. In the classroom, I worked with all kinds of learners: students who loved literature, students who struggled with writing, students preparing for tests. What I learned is that each person needs something different, and my job is to figure out what that is and make it click for them.

I focus on making literature and writing feel approachable and even enjoyable. Whether you're working on essays, analyzing poetry, preparing for tests, or just trying to understand what your teacher wants—I'm here to help you get there without the stress. I use a mix of clear explanation and practice, and I'm always happy to adjust based on what's actually working for you.

I'm patient, I listen, and I genuinely want you to feel confident in your abilities. Feel free to reach out with any questions or to schedule a lesson! I work with K-12 Reading, Writing, ELA, and Standardized Test Prep students!

ACT English

I earned a near-perfect ACT score as a student, so I know the grammar, punctuation, and rhetorical skills this section requires. As a former high school ELA teacher (grades 9–12) with a Summa Cum Laude English degree from the University of Michigan, I teach those rules clearly and show you exactly how they appear on test day. Sessions combine targeted instruction, timed practice with ACT-style questions, and strategies for efficiency and confidence. When you build accuracy and speed together, you walk into test day truly prepared.

I earned a near-perfect ACT score as a student, and reading comprehension has always been one of my greatest strengths.
