Hi! I'm Sophie. I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor's degree in English from the University of Michigan. Hi! I'm Sophie. I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor's degree in English from the University of Michigan. In college, I realized that the classes I loved most weren't necessarily about the topics themselves—they were about the professors who made the material come alive. I want to bring that same energy to tutoring.
I have a year of classroom teaching experience with high school students in grades 9–12 ELA, and I've been working with young people for over eleven years—eight years as a nanny and three years in professional childcare at the YMCA. In the classroom, I worked with all kinds of learners: students who loved literature, students who struggled with writing, students preparing for tests. What I learned is that each person needs something different, and my job is to figure out what that is and make it click for them.
I focus on making literature and writing feel approachable and even enjoyable. Whether you're working on essays, analyzing poetry, preparing for tests, or just trying to understand what your teacher wants—I'm here to help you get there without the stress. I use a mix of clear explanation and practice, and I'm always happy to adjust based on what's actually working for you.
I'm patient, I listen, and I genuinely want you to feel confident in your abilities. Feel free to reach out with any questions or to schedule a lesson! I work with K-12 Reading, Writing, ELA, and Standardized Test Prep students!
