Hello everybody, my name is Michael Leonard, and I am a retiree that still enjoys teaching! My background includes military service; being a family provider that understands challenging schedules; and the goal setting, and time-management skills required to achieve higher education.
I have a BA in History, membership in a History Honors Society, and 30 credits toward a Master's Degree in Global History. I also have a Personal Relations certificate from the Dale Carnegie organization. I taught at Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan. The courses that I taught were to multiple students in a formal classroom setting, and also individual, one on one tutoring. I taught English Grammar with Thesis development and spoken communications. My ability to teach has been enhanced by my experiences as a U.S. military service member. Later in my working life, my responsibilities as Community Outreach, then later on, Lead Field Manager for the U.S. Census Bureau truly tested the academic theory I had already learned and synthesized it into practical application. I was ultimately responsible for a team of 2500 associates. This required plenty of written and verbal communication skills, skills that I offer to you in my future tutoring sessions with you.
The best student success stories will be when the tutor learns a bit about their student and can personalize the instruction by building upon preexisting competencies and hobbies the student already has. An instructor should be dynamic and pleasant, not boring yet hold their students to high standards. High standards will allow the student to achieve... not just "pass the course." Teaching is holistic, not just mechanical memorization of data, and a good instructor will quickly determine if their student learns best by Listening, reading, or hands-on. Yes, different students have different learning styles.
It gives me joy to teach and to help my students to achieve their educational goals and dreams. Let me help you to do that!
