I hold a PhD from the University of Michigan in higher education and educational research, and I work full time as a research director running quantitative studies. Outside of that, I tutor statistics and research methods and consult on dissertations. I hold a PhD from the University of Michigan in higher education and educational research, and I work full time as a research director running quantitative studies. Outside of that, I tutor statistics and research methods and consult on dissertations. I've worked with roughly 700 students on Wyzant, most of them graduate students trying to get through a methods course, a comprehensive exam, or a dissertation analysis.

My approach is practical. I start by finding out what you actually need to produce, whether that's a homework set, a defensible results chapter, or a passing grade in a course you didn't expect to be this hard. Then we work backward from there. I explain the reasoning behind a test before we run it, because students who understand why they chose a method can defend it to a committee and reproduce it on the next assignment.

I work in SPSS, R, and Stata, and I can teach in whichever one your program requires. I'm comfortable with everything from t-tests and ANOVA up through regression, multilevel models, SEM, and latent class analysis. I also help students who are stuck earlier in the process: framing research questions, choosing a design, and figuring out whether their data can answer the question they're asking.

I hold a PhD from the University of Michigan and use probability daily in applied statistical work, so I teach it as the foundation for inference rather than as a set of isolated puzzles. R

R is what I use for my own research, so I teach it the way I actually work in it. With students I focus on getting you productive quickly: importing and cleaning your data with tidyverse, running the models your program requires, and producing plots and tables you can put straight into a manuscript. I work with a lot of people switching over from SPSS, where the jump to writing code is the hard part, and I'm patient about that. If your course uses a specific package or your advisor wants a specific method, send it ahead and I'll be ready for it.

SPSS

SPSS is where a lot of my dissertation students start, and it's a program I've used and taught for well over a decade. I've run the full graduate methods sequence with it, from descriptives and t-tests through ANOVA, regression, factor analysis, and reliability. Most of my students come to me with their own dataset and a deadline, so we work in their file rather than a textbook example. I also show you how to read the output tables and write the results up in APA format, which is usually the part that causes the most trouble.
STATA

STATA

Stata is my day-to-day workhorse, and I've taught it in the graduate research methods sequence at the University of Michigan's School of Education. I'm comfortable across the board, including data management, regression and GLMs, panel and multilevel models, SEM, propensity score matching, difference-in-differences, and time series. I write clear, reproducible do-files so you can rerun and adapt the analysis yourself. From a problem set to a replication to your dissertation models, I'll help you get it running and understand what it's telling you.
