Hello, I’m Austin. I graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in English and a capstone specialty in Creative Writing. I have been writing for four years, and have had multiple short stories officially published to the Patterns website. With the emergence of generative AI, it is more important now than ever to foster the creativity of aspiring authors. I aim to help new writers find their footing as they work to bring their stories to life. I offer two main services for creative writing tutoring; Writing Workshops and Creative Consulting. Writing Workshops are more structured sessions meant to give feedback on a specific written work. Clients are required to submit a piece of writing they wish to receive feedback on. Then during the scheduled session, I will go over the written work with them highlighting strengths of the piece and areas of improvement. I will also ask questions regarding the author’s intention and goal when writing the submission so I can provide appropriate feedback. Creative Consulting is a more informal discussion that tackles conceptual struggles of the writing process. Have you ever stopped writing because you had no direction on where to take the story? Do you just need someone to bounce ideas off of for your story? That is where Creative Consulting comes in. These sessions will be general discussions on whatever struggles the author may be having in the writing process. Written submissions are not required for consulting sessions, but are highly encouraged if the topic relates to already written work. I typically schedule tutoring sessions in one hour blocks. I require that written works be submitted by email at least 24 hours before a scheduled session so I have enough time to read the submission. I will also not accept submissions over 20 pages in length for one hour sessions. If you want feedback on a work longer than 20 pages, then I am willing to negotiate longer sessions or alternative rates. Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions.
