I have taught High School English for over thirteen years, holding a Bachelor's degree in Language Arts and Secondary Education and also a Master's degree in Literature. Recently, I received the Phyllis Ziebell Kesseler Outstanding Educator Award for the 2025-2026 school year. Outside of teaching, I coach and play soccer and ultimate frisbee, and I currently hold a L1 License in CrossFit. Musically, I play guitar, cello, and piano, though anything guitar has been my favorite for years. I also serve on my family's cattle ranch where we raise horses, cows, and border collies. Though northern Michigan is exceptionally cold, I look forward to Summers where I can ride my motorcycle.
The following are subjects that I have taught: English 9-12, ACE (which acts as a thirteen week English SAT Boot Camp), Creative Writing (Fiction, Poetry, and Non-fiction), and Exploring Literature (a reading for pleasure and literary element deep-dive). I believe Gradual Release of Responsibility is the best method to empower students. It acts as a scaffolded instructional style where the teacher models a correct process before transitioning power and confidence gradually over the the learner. I love seeing students get the "aha" moment and the link they were currently missing clicks with them.
Happy to serve any learner and excited to have an opportunity to develop your confidence in English. No matter the context, we are all works in progress with a capability to become more.
