Experienced Math and Economics Tutor

I'm Robin! I graduated summa cum laude with Bachelor's degrees in Math and Economics from the University of Oklahoma. Beyond the roar of the crowd at Sooner football games, the most memorable experiences I had at OU came from professors who went above and beyond in their instruction and mentorship. I approach tutoring with this focus, putting a high emphasis on finding ways to connect the material to students to make it more personal and enjoyable. In a typical session, I introduce the material from a broad and practical perspective before wading into the mechanics of a concept. Afterwards, I allow students to work on these mechanics themselves by writing example problems. Depending on the needs of the individual student, this plan can be adjusted. Every learner is different!

I have a year of experience tutoring student athletes at the University of Oklahoma in a variety of different math and economics courses, from College Algebra to Calculus III. I worked closely with students in-person to find out what learning strategies worked best for them and to make tutoring work for them. Moreover, I have worked for two years as a TA at Michigan State University for undergraduate intro and intermediate Microeconomics courses. In this role, I held office hours in which I help students understand the material. Finally, I have also been a TA for PhD Microeconomics courses at Michigan State. In this role, I taught two hours a week of recitation in which I provided direct instruction to 25 graduate students in addition to office hours. This experience solidified my ability to express even complicated material in a comprehensible and engaging way.
