About Joel

Bio

I recently took the MCAT (3/7/26) and scored a 525 (132/130/131/132), and I now offer one-on-one tutoring for students preparing for the exam. I graduated in December of 2025 from the University of Michigan with a degree in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology and a 3.99 GPA. In the last month leading up to my test date, I improved 13 points from my initial diagnostic score of 512 to my final score of 525.

What shaped my preparation most was not just content mastery, but developing a strategic understanding of how the MCAT tests that content. I have extensive experience working with AAMC materials, Anki, and to a lesser extent UWorld, and I emphasize learning how to interpret passages, identify patterns in question design, and approach problems the way test writers intend. I developed my own anki resources and refined existing decks to tailor my studying, and can provide these resources to aid yours. My goal in tutoring is to help students move beyond memorization and instead contextualize information so that it can be applied efficiently under testing conditions, reducing reliance on pure recall.

I work with students at all stages of preparation, whether they are building a study plan from the ground up or looking to break through a score plateau. I am particularly interested in helping students in the 510–520 range refine their approach and push into higher score brackets, drawing on strategies and mid- to low-yield content reinforcement that made a meaningful difference in my own improvement. While I was strongest in the sciences, my experience as someone who struggled with CARS has given me insight that I can use to help students overcome the same hurdles I faced in learning the unique test section.

My tutoring is conducted through one-on-one Zoom sessions with flexible scheduling, and I am happy to work with students either consistently over time or through a few focused sessions. If you are interested, feel free to reach out to schedule a free 15-minute introductory meeting.

MCAT

I took the MCAT on 3/7/26 and scored 525 . I scored 132 in Chemistry/Physics (100th percentile), 130 CARS (98th percentile), 131 Biology/Biochemistry (99th percentile), and 132 in Psychology/Sociology (100th percentile). I graduated from the University of Michigan with a 3.99 GPA in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology, building a strong foundation across all MCAT subjects. I have 2 years teaching experience as Science Director of the Michigan Synthetic Biology Team. I taught complex scientific concepts and lab techniques, strengthening my ability to explain material clearly. My experience with AAMC resources and teaching background allows me to effectively help students master both MCAT content and strategy.
