I started my education journey at Muskegon Community College studying general studies. I took many intro courses to see where I felt at home, which ultimately led me to the secondary education route. At MCC, I took many ELA courses which then helped me realize that this is the subject that I would love to teach. I then went on to the University of Michigan where I studied secondary education, English, and psychology. After graduating in 2024, I am now certified to teach 6-12 ELA.

Fast forward a bit over a year, and I am now in my second year of teaching at Muskegon High School. I currently teach English 12 and AP Lit, and last year I thought English 11 and 12. During my first year I was also an after-school tutor and a middle school wrestling coach.

As far as my methods go, I like to let my students learn hands-on, meaning I see the value in letting students learn for themselves. With this, I am still giving lessons and helping in assignments, but I don’t like to be the one talking the entire class. Especially with this upper-level age group, I have found that students do their best learning not by listening to me all hour, but by consistently putting their skills to use. As a tutor, I believe it is my job to clarify any questions they may have at the start and then work with them as they take on these challenging tasks.
