Bio

I have been teaching General Chemistry at the university level for the past 24 years at Saginaw Valley State University, Delta College, Central Michigan University, and Davenport University. I have a daytime job as an analytical chemist at a local company, but my real love in my profession is teaching and tutoring. I love that moment when a student "gets it". I will often use different explanations to drive a point home so that the student can better understand the topics they are struggling with.

I have been tutoring for the past year and students like the fact that I can tie in current concepts with what they have already learned because of the depth of knowledge I have from teaching. Student tutors do a very good job, but often don't have an extensive knowledge base to work from.

I think what makes me an outstanding tutor is the fact that I have been teaching at the university level for over 20 years and I have the ability to connect concepts for better understanding. This along with my enthusiasm for the subject and for teaching in general keeps the tutoring sessions active and beneficial to the student

If you are a General Chemistry student, High School Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, or AP Chemistry student, or are preparing for the SAT Subject Test in Chemistry, I encourage you to contact me with regard to one-on-one tutoring.

Chemistry

I have a PhD in Analytical Chemistry, so I have had a lot of experience with calculations and stoichiometry, which are commonly some of the more difficult concepts for students to understand. I have an excellent rapport with students. I relate to students very well. I have been teaching for 21 years at the University level. I received the Mary H. Anderson Adjunct Faculty Award at SVSU for my ability to help students understand chemistry at their level without "talking over their heads" despite my PhD.

Such a fun guy!! So knowledgeable and helpful with chemisty!

Stephen made such a horrible topic to study so fun! He’s extremely nice and fun to talk to but also so great at teaching. He genuinely wants to help students and see everyone succeed. He provided me with the clarity I needed to do well on my exam! If you are trying to decide between tutors, definitely pick Stephen! You won’t be disappointed.

Excellent!!!

My son had to self study for AP chemistry test in 10th grade as his school did not offer this class. After starting online tutoring with Stephen twice/week, my son went from disliking and avoiding chemistry to looking forward to his tutoring sessions, developing a good understanding of and confidently taking his AP exam. Stephen has been patient, kind, easy-going yet efficient and clearly explains difficult concepts in chemistry. We are very thankful to Stephen for his help!

Awesome Tutor

Stephen went over a number of chemistry concepts with me, and he really helped me to understand things that I simply could not grasp before. He's an awesome tutor, and I recommend him to anyone who is struggling or simply wants to get better at chemistry.

Amazing and kind teacher

I am so grateful for Steve and to be able to learn from him. I have so many assignments that I would doubt I would get done, but he always saves the day! I fully understand the material because of him and can thrive! Thank you so much, Steve, for all you do. You are an incredible tutor and person, and I am fortunate to know you!

amazing session

Helped a lot and cleared up my confusion on a major topic for my test. We also reviewed a few other topics and he helped me understand those very clearly.

creates a safe, fun, and non judgmental learning environment

Steve makes these tutoring sessions so un-stressful and actually fun! Time flies by and I’m still learning so much more than I do in my actual class it’s incredible!
