About Wes

Bio

I am a 4th year medical student at Columbia University with a strong background in both the hard sciences and economics. My academic record is built on rigorous preparation: I scored a 258 on the USMLE Step 2, ranked in the 96th percentile on the MCAT, and graduated with Honors from the University of Michigan with dual degrees in Chemistry and Economics.

My Tutoring Philosophy:
My approach combines the rigor of a scientist with the communication skills of a top-tier consultant. Before med school, I worked in healthcare consulting at a top consulting firm, where my job was to break down complex data for diverse audiences. I bring that same clarity to tutoring.

Experience & Background:
I have over 5 years of experience tutoring students from middle school to undergraduate levels. Beyond academics, I spent four years training and racing with the U.S. National Rowing Team. I know what it takes to perform under pressure, and I help my students build the discipline and confidence they need to crush their own "race days" (exams).

I am fluent in Spanish, having lived in Spain, Guatemala, and Costa Rica for a combined 10 months at intensive Spanish schools.

My schedule is currently flexible, and I am available for both consistent weekly sessions and last-minute test prep.

ACT Math

ACT Math

Throughout high school, I took the ACT a total of six times, starting with a score of 28 as a freshman and ending with a score of 34 as a senior, the 99th percentile. I learned the strategies associated with taking the test and how to approach each section. I have stayed up to date on the Princeton Review's study material for the ACT and their suggested strategies.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

Math has been one of my favorite subjects since the age of 10. I have received straight A's up through calculus four, differential equations. While I've had a natural inclination my entire life to enjoy math from the challenges associated with mastering the topic, I understand the struggles with learning math and am very good at being able to explain topics in many different ways that makes the topics clear and concise.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

Math has been one of my favorite subjects since the age of 10. I have received straight A's up through calculus four, differential equations. While I've had a natural inclination my entire life to enjoy math from the challenges associated with mastering the topic, I understand the struggles with learning math and am very good at being able to explain topics in many different ways that makes the topics clear and concise.

Chemistry

Chemistry

I majored in Honors Chemistry in college, getting A's in almost every single one of my classes. I love chemistry and have tutored fellow classmates throughout college in various chemistry classes, always receiving very positive feedback and results in their grades. I am very adept at making chemistry approachable and easily understood.
MCAT

MCAT

I took an MCAT Prep class through the Princeton Review in 2015 for the new MCAT exam. I scored in the 97th percentile, a 518, on the exam and helped lead classes when asked by the teachers. I have had a lot of experience tutoring and am able to help individuals identify if they need help on the material or strategy for taking the exam.
Physics

Physics

In college I received A's in my intro physics classes and was one of the top students in my 250 person lecture. I tutored several classmates in physics while taking my classes. If I had taken physics as a freshman, I would most likely have chosen that as my major. Unfortunately I didn't take it until my junior year of college after I had already declared chemistry. I still love tutoring physics whenever I get the chance.
Precalculus

Precalculus

Math has been one of my favorite subjects since the age of 10. I have received straight A's up through calculus four, differential equations.
Spanish

Spanish

I took Spanish all throughout high school up through AP Spanish. I then took a gap year before college and lived in Granada, Spain for five months. While there, I studied at an intensive language school, with four hours of Spanish class per day. When I left Spain, I was fluent in Spanish and loved every second of speaking it.
Trigonometry

While I've had a natural inclination my entire life to enjoy math from the challenges associated with mastering the topic, I understand the struggles with learning math and am very good at being able to explain topics in many different ways that makes the topics clear and concise.

Help with Honors Chemistry

My son had his first lesson with Wes tonight. He really liked him. He said he explained the lesson really good so a young man could understand. We will have another lesson next week but expect it to go great.
