Hello I’m Amelia! I’m a recent graduate from the University of Oxford with a BA in History and Politics, with a year of experience tutoring high school students. When I was in school, it was my teachers who motivated me to engage deeply with my studies, and who helped build my confidence in academics and I strive to bring this type of positive support to all of my students. I love to make sessions fun and interactive, catering to the learning style and needs of my students, and always ensuring the content is tailored to them. I am happy to use lesson plans with students to provide structured content overview, but I am equally equipped to spend a session working on homework or essays with a student.
I have experience tutoring AP US History, AP World History, AP English Language, and AP English Literature, and am familiar with the course content and strategies for test preparation. I love to share study strategies with my students to make these subjects less daunting, and to have in depth discussions to deepen their understanding. In AP specific sessions, I create practice problems sets in line with the curriculum’s Short Answer, Long Essay, and Document Based Questions, and will have my students practice times writing on the call to provide a simulation of exam conditions. I follow these practice problems with clear feedback for the student, and we discuss the answers in their own words to see what could be better for the future. My students so far have all found these sessions helpful, informative, and confidence boosting as they grow in their understanding. My feedback always balances a positive recognition of hard work and accurate answers with a kind approach to criticism and correction.
