About Yunghsuan

Bio

I have over ten years of experience teaching violin and am an active professional performer. I currently serve as a violinist with the Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra and hold a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Violin Performance from Michigan State University.

My teaching approach is highly individualized and shaped by each student’s goals, whether preparing for competitions, orchestra auditions, or building a strong musical foundation. Many of my students have won prizes in competitions...

I have over ten years of experience teaching violin and am an active professional performer. I currently serve as a violinist with the Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra and hold a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Violin Performance from Michigan State University.

My teaching approach is highly individualized and shaped by each student’s goals, whether preparing for competitions, orchestra auditions, or building a strong musical foundation. Many of my students have won prizes in competitions and successfully earned placements in school and youth orchestras. I have also led violin sectionals for junior high school string orchestras and regularly coached student string quartets. Through these experiences, I have worked with a diverse range of elementary and middle school students.

I am deeply passionate about teaching and enjoy how students continually inspire me. I focus on expanding students’ musical interests by incorporating creativity into lessons, including improvisation, playing and reworking popular music, and collaborative music-making. I also encourage participation in concerts, performances, and competitions to help build confidence and motivation. My goal is to create a fun, supportive learning environment where students can develop strong technique while nurturing a lifelong love for music.

In addition to violin, I have taught viola and piano at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. I have also taught chamber music and orchestra sectionals at the Interlochen Fine Arts Festival. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and look forward to meeting you.

I have been teaching the piano for 15 years and I play the piano in Church services every Sunday. I studied the piano since I was 6 years old and I had a double major in Violin and Piano for 10 years. I specialize in beginner piano lessons and focus on their foundation.

I am a professional violinist and hold a Doctoral Degree in Violin Performance. Currently, I am a violinist at Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra. I have taught the Violin and the Piano for over 12 years. I love seeing my students grow in their learning path and find ways to express themselves with music! I was a Violin instructor at Interlochen Fine Art Camp in 2017 and I gave coaching to strings ensemble classes. Last year summer, I was invited to Dali Quartet International Music Festival in Philadelphia to teach strings quartet and private lessons.

Wonderful teacher!

In the short amount of time that I’ve worked with Yunghsuan, I’ve made more progress than I ever expected. She is kind, competent, encouraging, smart, patient and extremely organized - which works well for a student like myself, a beginner who needs more direct instruction. She breaks down every step of the material we’re working on and I leave each lesson feeling like I have a detailed plan for my practice sessions. She has a gift for teaching and I truly enjoy our lessons. I am so happy to have found her!
