Hi there. If you're reading this, someone's having difficulties in school. It may be your child or grandchild, a niece or nephew, maybe a friend-maybe even you. I would like to be the one to help.

I've been tutoring for four years now, mainly working with kids who have learning differences. These learning differences may be diagnosed as dyslexia, but educational research shows that they are really the result of a brain that is working differently to take in the world. In fact, these studies show that people diagnosed as dyslexic often end up being the new idea folks. Steve Jobs, the man who put the personal computer in everyone's reach, is dyslexic. So is Steven Spielberg. So were Henry Ford and Thomas Edison. So thank goodness for the different ways our brains work.

Given this, I've been trained to use multi-sensory techniques, techniques that cover all the ways we learn. Some of us are visual learners, some of us learn best when we hear and discuss ideas, some people find it helpful to move or have a fidget to keep their muscles active. So I work hard to find the best technique to teach students. Based on their learning styles, I develop daily lesson plans that use their strengths to cover areas that are tough.

In addition to teaching Language Arts and Reading, I have also taught Middle School Study Skills and tutored in High School AP History. I've covered the age range from kindergarten to high school and I love all ages.

I have have attended presentations and discussions about working with students with ADD/HD presented by organizations in town, including Children and Adults with ADD (CHAD). I have also been trained in Picture This, which helps in visualization while reading and Handwriting Without Tears. For the first 6 years of my tutoring career, I worked almost exclusively with students who were dyslexic.
