I am currently completing a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education at Western Governors University, which includes coursework in instructional planning, assessment, monitoring student learning, early literacy development, and differentiated instruction. My program emphasizes evidence-based teaching practices, alignment with standards, and mastery of core elementary content areas, preparing me to tutor students in reading, writing, and foundational math. I am also trained to use formative and summative assessments to identify learning gaps and tailor instruction to individual students' needs.
My teaching experience includes both structured academic settings and informal instructional support. Through coursework and field-based experiences, I have worked with elementary-aged students (ages 5–11) in classroom and small-group settings, supporting literacy instruction, guided reading, and skill reinforcement. I have also provided one-on-one academic support and homework help in community and volunteer settings, adapting instruction for different learning styles and pacing needs. My approach focuses on scaffolding, explicit instruction, positive reinforcement, and building student confidence alongside academic skills.
In terms of context and duration, I have been engaged in education-related work and training throughout my degree program, with experience supporting students in short-term sessions and in ongoing weekly support. I am exceptionally comfortable working one-on-one or in small groups, where I can closely monitor progress and adjust strategies in real time. I bring a trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming approach to tutoring, ensuring instruction is patient, structured, and supportive. These experiences and skills allow me to effectively tutor elementary students in foundational academic areas while meeting their individual learning needs.
