Hello, and thank you for taking the time to learn a little about me! If I were in a completely different profession, I would still find myself tutoring or teaching. I’ve always believed that every student can thrive when given encouragement, structure, and someone who listens closely to how they think and learn. For me, coaching students through the challenges of reading, writing, and communication—and watching their confidence grow—is the highest reward of my career.
I hold a Michigan teaching license in English and have an academic background in journalistic writing, public speaking, and media studies through the Defense Information School in Fort Meade, Maryland, where I was certified as a Public Affairs Officer while serving in the National Guard. For the past ten years, I have taught English composition and literature at Portage Central High School in Portage, Michigan, working with students in accelerated, core, and accommodated ELA courses. These experiences have equipped me to support a wide range of learners, including those who struggle with motivation, confidence, or executive-function challenges. In addition to teaching, I serve as a behavior coach/student support specialist. This work gives me daily opportunities to support students one-on-one as they navigate academic, emotional, and organizational hurdles. These roles complement each other and help me connect deeply with students as both a classroom instructor and a mentor.
I am currently completing my Master of Science in Educational Counseling at Creighton University while continuing my full-time teaching and coaching responsibilities. Through my internship, I spend extensive time supporting high school students individually, helping them build communication skills, work through academic obstacles, and develop strategies that make learning more manageable. My tutoring approach on Wyzant reflects this same mindset: patient, empathetic, tutoring tailored to each student's needs.
