I first learned Spanish when I was nineteen years old and lived in Spain for two years. During that time I fell in love with the language and the culture. In college I majored in Spanish and minored in history at Brigham Young University, then did an MA in Spanish at BYU, and finished my formal education with a PhD in Iberian and Latin American Cultures from Stanford University.
For the past 17 years, I have been teaching university Spanish from the 101 level all the way to advanced grammar, writing, conversation, history, culture, and literature classes. I have tutored many hundreds of students and received top evaluations from them.
Not only do I have a deep understanding of the language, I also speak with native-level fluency. My wife is a native Spanish speaker, and I regularly travel to Spanish-speaking countries.
I also have extensive experience working with young people in public and private settings. I have been a substitute teacher from kindergarten to high school, an eighth-grade basketball coach, and have worked for twenty years in community and church youth organizations.
I am committed to helping my students succeed.
