Hi! My name is Paul. I am passionately curious, and I want other students to find as much joy in learning as I do. I believe the goal of learning is not a higher grade or prestige, but to better ourselves to improve the lives of the people we love.
I was homeschooled and, until 9th grade, I hated school. I hated being required to read or do math when I would rather go outside or play videogames. When I went into high school, the learning material extended beyond my teachers' (sometimes I call them my parents) skillsets. So, from 9th to 12th grade, the task of my learning became solely my responsibility. I started to identify with what I was learning and, since no one was telling me what to do, I actually loved it! After 4 years of being completely self-taught, I graduated with a 4.0 GPA and a 1470 on the SAT. I eventually enrolled in the Civil Engineering program at Western Michigan University, and finished my first semester with honors. Following my instincts (and financial interests) I forwent my degree and am now training to run my family's construction company.
After high school, I also counseled high-schoolers and managed high school volunteers at a summer camp in Northern Michigan for 6 months. This entailed having extended, one-on-one talks with roughly 110 sophomores, juniors, and seniors, many of which I still mentor currently. It is clear to me how important this age range is for character building and intellectual growth. So, I want to offer whatever I can in making these crucial years successful academically and personally.
When it comes to mathematics and science, I know the material. But that alone will not make me a good tutor for you or your student. Years of trial and error with learning and study methods, a passionate interest in helping others succeed and find pleasure in learning, and, most importantly, integrity. These are what matter to me.
