I graduated from Albion College with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in geology and biology while minoring in paleontology and fine art. I completed my Masters of Science at the University of Alberta in geology, focusing on mammals of the Early Eocene (about 10 million years after dinosaurs went extinct, during a warm interval known for the appearance of many new mammal groups); fluviolacustrine sequence stratigraphy (lake and river sediment architecture); and taphonomy (the study of how fossils are deposited!). I am incredibly passionate about planetary science and strongly believe that geology is a vast field that can accomodate the fascination of almost anyone.
I am a forever student who believes in the power of knowledge. I rely on examining information from many perspectives to teach others. I encourage students to discern their learning styles in order to absorb and retain information at their own pace. I am very sensitive to anyone who may struggle with learning and hope to inspire others to believe in themselves. The universe is shaped by amazing processes and I want to provide students with the tools to examine, observe and think critically about the information around them.
