I like to play education games to help children have fun while learning. I have experience tutoring children who have IEPs. My goal is to have children learn, grow in knowledge and have fun while learning.

I like to find books, articles and Internet stories on topics the children are interested in so that reading becomes part of every day instead of not wanting to read. I look for words in the reading that they can use so they comprehend what they are reading.

I am available during the day during summer and after school during the school year.

Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I’ve tutored elementary students in the past who have study skill concerns in a classroom setting. I adapted and helped the students by using “visual cues” and “keyword” and “phrases” to help them understand the subject and meaning of what the student is learning and studying. I introduced the vocabulary of the subject being studied and made contact with both teacher and parents.
Handwriting

Handwriting

I currently teach at-risk pre-k students. I find many have limited exposure to writing, drawing, cutting, squeezing. All of these opportunities previously mentioned enhance eye hand coordination. I also use tongs for picking up items for dexterity and play dough for making letters and using hands and fingers. I use program "Handwriting Without Tears" to help students write letters on paper. I then give them opportunity to use pen, pencil, marker and crayons to write with (based on child's development and comfort zone). I break crayons and use golf pencils to help children become more comfortable with tripod grasp when writing.
Phonics

Phonics

I was trained in Michigan Department of Education Literacy Program, High Scope Early Literacy Curriculum Trained and a Pre-K teacher, academic tutor for Several public school districts and the trainings were based on letter and phonemic awareness. For example; training taught drawing pictures and writing letters and "inventive spelling" helps student to hearing the sound of letters and words for early letter recognition. Reinforcement of correct spelling By sounding out and Literacy/Reading grammatical rules such as "i" before the "e" and when to drop "y" and add "ies".
Reading

Reading

I taught preschool and elementary for 30 years. I was an academic tutor for elementary students in 2 public school districts in Livingston county. I work on letter recognition , sounds, letter chunks, short words, putting together words to make meaning from the sounds ands words which create sentences. I do support the primary teacher lesson and take suggestions from teacher, parent and student to help build their skill set and confidence in reading.
