My name is Tom.
I am an experienced Math and Science teacher of 27 years. I currently teach Math, SAT Prep and Michigan History at Pinckney High School. I have taught all levels of math, from 7th grade Math up to Calculus (including Geometry and Trigonometry). I have also taught High School Physics. I enjoy teaching and I have a knack for it. I have had many students over the years come back and tell me how much they learned in my classroom. I am a graduate from Michigan State University, and I hold a Masters in History from Eastern Michigan. I am certified to teach 6-12 in Math, Science and History in the State of Michigan. I have tutored students from Howell, Brighton, Fowlerville, Hartland and Pinckney over the years. In my spare time I am an avid Mountain Biker.
Typically as a tutor, I see myself primarily as helping the student to understand his or her homework, and look for "gaps" in understanding that lead to academic difficulties. My "curriculum" is really set by the student's needs in the subject area. I also provide pointers to help the student's study skills.
I am very familiar with the Howell and Pinckney school systems (as I am a teacher in Pinckney and have had children in the Howell school system), and also tutor many students from Brighton and Hartland.
I hope to hear from you. My name is Tom.

Tom was Helpful and a nice guy. He was able to explain things in a way that helped me understand the material better.
Walked me through all sorts of concepts, knew what he was talking about and gave relevant examples relating to the concepts we talked about. He really helped me out and I definitely would suggest Tom to anyone who needs help in physics.
My son did better in class as a result of Tom's help. I will be setting up additional sessions. Thanks for being available and easy to work with. Because of your tutoring my son felt more confident in his math class.
Helped me to understand what it was that I was missing. Not by telling me but by guiding me to the answers. Really helped me to get my confidence back! Thanks Tom
Sara felt very confident after this lesson. I think she felt very relieved! She also mentioned that Tom was very observant of her as a learner, which as her parent I am very happy about! :) She said he noticed that she wasn't getting it, even though she said she did. We just need to get her through this class!!!! Thank you!
My son enjoyed his time with Tom. He would like to continue with Tom possibly once per week to keep up on assignments for Algebra II and Chemistry. Thank you Tom - look forward to scheduling another session.
Son saw Tom to help him understand precalculus material better. Son felt it helped him. We are waiting for his midterm grade to see how much the 2 sessions helped. Tom was very accommodating & our son wants to continue tutoring sessions with him.
Tom has been flexible with meeting times. He is knowledgeable of the subject matter and has a good method for explaining the information.
My daughter got a lot out of her session and understood the material. She was very confident and felt more prepared for her upcoming test.
We contacted Tom for help with Algebra 2. Being a high school math teacher, he cuts through everything and meets students right where they are at. He's very patient and breaks down the material, so kids can really understand it.
We highly recommend him!!
Tom is a very good tutor. I would 100% recommend him to anyone struggling in math. He is easy to reach and makes it very convenient to meet up with for tutoring.
I was taking a 500-level statistics course as a prerequisite for a business analysis class required for my MBA. I have done poorly in statistics in the past and was very concerned about passing, so I arranged to meet with Tom in hopes he could assist.
Tom worked with me to review the concepts and put them into more understandable terms to which I could better relate. He also helped me to see that I was understanding most of the concepts more than I thought, which gave me more confidence as I went into quizzes. Not only did I pass, I received an A in the class!
Tom is very responsive and flexible with scheduling. I am very appreciative for his help, and would recommend him to others looking for a tutor.
I met with Tom for the first time and he really helped me out with a lot of things I was having trouble with in my statistics class. I will definitely be meeting with him again.
My daughter has had tutors in the past and Tom is the best by far!!! Her grades rose considerably by her 3rd session. He is very accommodating to our schedule, very pleased. We will continue to utilize his skills for her last one and half yrs of high school and possibly college if needed.
We truly appreciate Tom's help in tutoring our high school age son in advanced geometry. Tom is very patient, and he takes the time to explain the math and reasoning. He is also flexible and makes it easy for us to fit the sessions into our schedule. Hiring a tutor is an investment, and we are so pleased with and grateful for all the extra help we receive from Tom!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been a math teacher for 24 years and have taught Geometry for the last 10 years.
