I am an engineer and researcher in math with significant tutoring experience.

I earned a PhD in Applied Mathematics from Michigan State University. I have an MS in Applied and Computational Mathematics from the University of Michigan - Dearborn. I am an engineer and researcher in math with significant tutoring experience.

I earned a PhD in Applied Mathematics from Michigan State University. I have an MS in Applied and Computational Mathematics from the University of Michigan - Dearborn. As an undergraduate I attended University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, earning a BSE in Nuclear Engineering and a minor in Mathematics. While at Ann Arbor, I worked in the Department of Mathematics tutoring undergraduate math courses (precalculus, calculus, differential equations). I am currently an Engineer with the US Army Ground Vehicle Systems Center, and before that worked at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory as an engineer, where I practice what I learned in math, science, and engineering daily.

Through my time in school and my work as an engineer, I have gained further competency in algebra, precalculus, calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, and physics. My engineering work experience gives me the unique ability to share real world examples of applied math and physics with students!

My tutoring philosophy focuses on strengthening comprehension and application of fundamental concepts and problem solving approaches. While math problems can seem complicated, they all follow basic rules and patterns. By building and practicing foundational principles and rules, my students can break down complicated problems into smaller, simpler steps. I assess where my student’s difficulties are coming from, give focused instruction on the concept, and give additional problem sets in the area to reinforce good habits.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I majored in Engineering and minored in Math in college, and this required a strong foundation in Algebra. These concepts were applied in all my Math and Engineering coursework. I tutored these concepts while working in the UM Mathematics Department and as a volunteer high school tutor during engineering position.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

My education has given me mastery of Algebra. I majored in engineering and I minored in math which required a thorough understanding of advanced Algebra concepts. My tutoring of high school students (through employer community volunteering) has given me direct experience helping students with Algebra 2 subject matter.
Calculus

Calculus

I minored in Mathematics in college, and this required taking differential, integral, and multi-variable calculus and courses that built on that knowledge. While earning my Engineering degree, I worked for the UM Mathematics Department as a tutor for undergraduate courses. After graduating, I worked as an engineer where I applied this subject nearly everyday for 3 years.
Differential Equations

Differential Equations

I minored in mathematics in college, and this required taking a sequence in linear algebra, ordinary differential equations, and partial differential equations. These topics were used extensively in my engineering courses. I also used this practically during my work as an engineer.
Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra

I minored in mathematics in college, and this required taking a sequence in linear algebra, ordinary differential equations, and partial differential equations. Linear algebra was the foundation for the differential equation courses and the topic was used extensively in my engineering courses. I applied concepts in linear algebra during my previous engineering work and currently in consulting building market and financial models.
Precalculus

Precalculus

My education and engineering job required mastery of Pre-Calculus concepts. I applied Pre-Calculus topics (functions, vectors, exponential, logarithms, etc.) throughout subsequent Calculus and other math courses while earning my Math minor and in my Engineering coursework. I have continued to apply my knowledge in these topics directly in my engineering and consulting work. I have tutoring experience at both the high school (through community volunteering) and undergraduate levels (through employment in the UM Mathematics Department) in Pre-Calculus courses.

Really helped with finals!

Nick was called in last minute to help my son prepare for his IB math final exams, it was tough material, but Nick really knew his stuff. He was patient, knowledgeable but most important he connected with my son. I still don't know what my sons grade was from his exam, but he feels he was prepared as best he could be. I will be calling on Nick next year for more help.

Excellent tutor, thorough and highly knowledgeable

Nick got back to me quickly, and did a good job of preparing for what he was going to cover with my son. My son was fully engaged during the entire 1.5 hour period with Nick, and he said afterwards, "That was so helpful!"
