My life has been filled with a love of books and reading. It was a pleasure to read to my own children and guide them as they began reading on their own. I spent eleven years managing the library at the Christian school my children attended. I enjoyed sharing great literature with each class and helping students find books that piqued their interest.

In recent years, I have had opportunities to do copywriting. In this capacity I have written product descriptions, website content, and rewritten content that has been translated from other languages to make it more readable in English. I have been gifted with excellent spelling and grammar skills. I have edited various works such as children’s books, High School and college papers, and Master’s level thesis papers.

I admire those who move to an English-speaking country to continue their education or to work. Because of the higher education opportunities in my area there are many who are looking to improve their use of the English language. With this in mind, I completed a 120-hour course, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, and a 50-hour course, Teaching Business English. I earned certificates for both of these courses from International TEFL and TESOL Training (ITTT).

It has been my pleasure to help college students understand and complete their assignments; help visitors to our country learn vocabulary for traveling; help businessmen with business vocabulary; prepare a student to attend American high school; and teach conversational English.

I have enjoyed building relationships with people in a wide-range of ages. Recently, I provided in-home care for the elderly, taught Sunday School to ages five through nine, and led a College Age Bible Study. A highlight of my year for more than 15 years has been taking a week each summer to counsel Senior High girls at a Church Camp.

My strengths are a firm and intuitive grasp of the English language and I relate well with people of all ages. I love to see the light turn on when a concept finally clicks

Bible Studies

Bible Studies

I have been systematically studying the Bible for more than 35 years and have taken a number of college-level Bible classes. On a personal level, I delight to read through the Bible to see how it all fits together. I have taught and explained the Bible in classroom settings as well as during informal, one-on-one discussions.
ESL/ESOL

ESL/ESOL

I have had the opportunity to have interaction with individuals from other countries, including a young professional from France who lived with my husband and me for a year. We enjoyed helping him improve his English with day-to-day conversation so he would be better prepared for the international workplace when he returned to France. Currently, one job I am called upon to do is to take content that was translated from other languages and rewrite it to make it more understandable and readable.
Proofreading

Proofreading

Because of my love of the written word, grammar and spelling mistakes pop out whether I am reading a book, magazine, or signs at the store. My grammar and spelling skills have been essential in my job as a copywriter where I frequently take previously written work and rewrite it. I have also had the opportunity to proofread and edit children’s books, High School and college papers, and a Master’s level thesis paper.
Reading

Reading

One of my favorite pastimes is reading and I want to share that love for the written word with others. During my 11 years managing the library at the Christian school my children attended, I delighted in directing students to books that grabbed the students’ attention while guiding them to books within their reading level. I am thankful that my own start in reading was by phonics and I helped my children and many others to learn the same way. I believe it is just as important for students to learn to sound out each word correctly as to comprehend each thought.

Thoughtful and Thorough

Cathie E. has been with us for an initial visit to initially get to know our daughter and assess her needs. She explained methods she would use to help build comprehension level. She showed great care and suggested some ways the program could be tailored to our daughter's needs. She also gave some homework in anticipation of her next visit. We are excited about having Cathie E. onboard, helping with our daughter's needs. Looking forward to it!
