I have spent much of my professional life teaching, writing, and working with students in ways that strengthen their ability to think clearly and communicate effectively. I hold a master’s degree in European and Middle Eastern History and served as a graduate assistant, working closely with undergraduate students in discussion sections and writing-intensive courses. I have also taught graduate-level courses in education and organizational dynamics, which required guiding adult learners through complex texts, historical context, and the development of their own analytical writing.
My work as a writer also informs my approach to tutoring. I am the author of two books and numerous articles, and I place a strong emphasis on helping students develop a clean, clear style of writing that communicates ideas well. Whether working with essays, research papers, or reading comprehension, I enjoy helping students organize their thinking, strengthen arguments, and gain confidence in expressing themselves. Much of my teaching experience has been one-on-one or in small seminar settings, which naturally translates into the individualized approach of tutoring.
In addition to history and writing, I tutor languages including Russian and French. I studied Russian at Nizhny Novgorod State University in Russia, where I received a language certificate, and I have spent significant time traveling and working in Russian-speaking regions. My background in French includes an undergraduate minor and extensive travel in Francophone countries. These experiences allow me to help students not only with grammar and vocabulary, but also with the cultural and historical context that brings language learning to life.
