My favorite things about teaching are developing hands-on learning experiences and lessons tailored to students' individual learning styles and interests. Seeing a student's creativity is the most exciting thing! I studied Business Communications at Calvin College '10 and received my MA in Elementary Education from National-Louis University '15.

I love working with kids one-on-one or in small groups, and also have 2 years of volunteer experience in tutoring a 4th grader and a 5th grader. I currently teach in the Extended Day program at the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools.

I can tutor in any elementary subject, but my super strengths are writing, creative writing, English, and reading. I have an ESL endorsement, experience in working with kids with disabilities, and have subbed in or taught every grade N3 to 8th.

Some of my hobbies are running, writing poetry, exploring Hyde Park while walking Jake, the golden retriever, and basketball. My interests are traveling the world, early intervention, and teaching and learning.

I am familiar with Common Core and took an extra Foundations in Elementary Math class in grad school that dove deeper into how students come to understand and conceptualize math.

I have an ESL endorsement and experience working with ESL students. I am a published poet and writer, and it is my passion to see students develop a love for reading and writing. I am able to break down writing tasks into manageable parts and make it less stressful for fledgling students.
