Hi, I’m Maria-your new math tutor!

My tutoring specialties include K–8 math, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and PSAT/SAT/ACT math preparation. I graduated magna cum laude from Hope College with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Classics. During my time there, I discovered that the classes I enjoyed and excelled in the most were taught by professors who were engaging, supportive, and deeply passionate about their subjects. Their impact inspired my own passion for helping students build confidence and discover joy in learning math.

Throughout college, I actively sought out tutoring and teaching opportunities. I worked as an online math tutor, volunteered with underprivileged students, taught piano at a local dance and music school, and regularly assisted classmates in the campus math lab. As a member of the mathematics honor society Pi Mu Epsilon, I also had the opportunity to collaborate on challenging mathematical problems and projects, which strengthened both my analytical and teamwork skills.

Currently, I serve as a middle school math intervention teacher, where I design data-driven, personalized lessons for small groups of students who need targeted support in mastering key standards. My approach is interactive and student-centered — focused on collaboration, mathematical discussion, and building genuine understanding. I work closely with classroom teachers to ensure consistent support across learning environments. Beyond the school day, I provide PSAT and MSTEP tutoring sessions to help students prepare for standardized assessments with confidence.

My goal is to help every student reach their academic potential and develop a lasting confidence in math. I use a wide variety of resources and teaching strategies to meet each learner’s unique needs, and I’m committed to clear communication and quick responses.
