I have spent the past 28 years teaching science and biology, working with students across a wide range of ages and ability levels. I earned my undergraduate degree as a Biology major at Kalamazoo College, and I am currently completing a Master’s degree in Biology at Clemson University, which I will finish in May. My academic background, combined with decades of classroom experience, allows me to explain complex biological concepts clearly while grounding them in real-world examples. Biology has always been a subject I genuinely enjoy, and that enthusiasm carries into my teaching.
Throughout my career, I have taught middle school, high school, and college-level biology in formal classroom settings, as well as providing individualized support to students who need extra help. My experience includes general biology, honors and AP-level coursework, lab-based learning, and test preparation. I regularly work one-on-one with students to reinforce foundational concepts, improve study skills, and build confidence. I focus on identifying gaps in understanding, breaking content into manageable pieces, and using visuals, analogies, and active questioning to make learning more accessible.
As a tutor, my approach is patient, supportive, and tailored to each student’s needs and goals. I understand that students often struggle not because they lack ability, but because they need concepts explained in a different way or at a different pace. I enjoy helping students develop both content mastery and scientific thinking skills, and I am excited to work with learners who want to strengthen their understanding of biology. I am also looking forward to continuing to build meaningful tutoring relationships.
