My name is Lauren, and I am a private tutor with over seven years of experience working with elementary, middle school, high school, and adult learners. I recently completed my PhD in History at the University of Toronto, and I also hold a BA in History and German and an MA in History. I specialize in English language skills and academic support, including reading, writing, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, essay writing, and reading comprehension. I also tutor history at all levels.

I have extensive experience working one-on-one with students in a variety of settings. I have served as a Teaching Assistant at both the University of Vermont and the University of Toronto, where I supported student writing, led discussion sections, and provided detailed feedback on essays and assignments. In addition, I have tutored elementary and middle school students in English fundamentals, including grammar, vocabulary, reading, and writing, as well as college students in history and academic writing.

My teaching style is patient, supportive, and individualized. I focus on meeting each student where they are and helping them improve step by step. Each session is tailored to the student’s needs, whether that means improving essay structure, strengthening grammar and sentence clarity, building reading comprehension, preparing for exams, or developing foundational literacy skills. For younger students, I focus on confidence-building and making learning engaging and accessible. For older students and adults, I emphasize clarity, organization, and academic or professional writing skills.

I am friendly, approachable, and committed to helping students make measurable progress at their own pace. My goal is to reduce stress around learning and help students build skills they can use long-term in school, work, and everyday communication.
