Reading tutoring by successful teacher-author of phonics programs

I tutor using screens with movable objects, phonics games and poems to keep students engaged. Helping students become independent readers is my dedicated passion. I create phonics products under the name Phonics Advantage. My phonics products have had more than 1.8K reviews with an average rating of 4.9 out of 5 with 1,246 followers on Teachers Pay Teachers.

My passion for phonics began when I spent one semester working under a Federal grant in middle school tutoring 7th and 8th graders who were 3+ years behind their reading grade level. I created phonics material for my students because there was little quality material for older students. It was very rewarding to see the students improve by leaps and bounds when challenged with age-appropriate material.

Although I did have the college course Teaching Children How to Read for my Education Major, what has influenced me most is the class I attended at our county's educational resource center that specifically focused on phonics; and the six hours I spent observing through one-way glass how the center tested and taught phonics.

I am passionate about phonics because I believe that helping someone become an independent reader will make a positive impact on their life.
