Hi, I'm Sally! I am currently an adjunct professor in the CIS department of Oakland Community College. I started tutoring in middle school as a peer math tutor and continued teaching in various capacities throughout my education. I was a teacher's assistant for creative writing and programming courses as an undergrad. I also worked as an adult literacy tutor with Kalamazoo Literacy Council, helping students prepare for the math section of the GED; and I've been an in-class aide for a third-grade class, assisting the students with reading and arithmetic.
I would describe my tutoring style as patient and flexible. I love learning, and want to share that love with other people. I work to understand where you're getting stuck and try to meet you there. I enjoy teaching students and making complex ideas easy to understand.
I have a BA in English with a minor in computer science from Kalamazoo College and an MSIT from Lawrence Technological University. Throughout my career, I have primarily been in IT with experience in automotive and life sciences; however, I have also worked as a business analyst, tech support rep, UX researcher, product manager, and IT manager.
In high school, I was on the math team and started a school-sponsored book club with several classmates. In college, I was a cartoonist for the school newspaper and volunteered in the mail center. I am in Beta Gamma Sigma, an international business honor society, for academic achievement in my grad school program. I'm involved with my local community garden and enjoy reading, crocheting, and doing puzzles. I live in Michigan with my husband and dog, Idris.
