About John

Bio

I've taught college level physics and math to hundreds of students for several years. My focus is on making it easy for you. Instead of giving you lots of techniques for each different topic, I use a simple, unified, and straightforward approach to understanding. I believe in breaking down complex topics into simple principles. This way, learning difficult things becomes less challenging and more enjoyable for every student I work with.

I can teach you a class from scratch or I can help you with your homework. I work as a physicist and apply much of what I've taught people in the past.

In mathematics, I've taught calculus, linear algebra, geometry, differential equations, analysis, etc. I will be able to help you comprehend these from the bottom up.

Where I really shine in my tutoring is in physics and physical chemistry. I can help you with algebra-based physics, calc-based physics, modern physics, classical mechanics, optics, electromagnetism, accelerator physics, physical chemistry, statistical mechanics, thermodynamics, quantum mechanics, quantum chemistry, etc.

I am very comfortable with all of the above topics and I can help you get there too.

Contact me, and we can schedule lessons to get you on track to do well in your current classes and in the future.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

Bachelor's in Honors Mathematics with 6 years of tutoring experience for algebra
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I earned undergraduate honors degrees in mathematics and physics, and have extensively used algebra for every moment of it. Whether you are having difficulties conceptualizing it, or having difficulties working out problems, I'm ready to gently help and prepare you for the thinking and concepts in your next math classes.
Calculus

Calculus

Earned BS degree in Honors Mathematics, oriented towards pure mathematics and research. Nearly 10 years of experience using calculus every day. Tutored 100+ students in Calculus over several years. Earned 4.0's in every calculus class I took and 5's on both AP calculus exams.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I earned undergraduate honors degrees in chemical physics and physics, and have tutored at all levels, from beginners up to college senior physics. Whether you are having difficulties conceptualizing the physical formulations in chemistry, or having difficulties working out problems, I am ready to help. In chemistry, I focus on AP Chemistry, intro chemistry classes, and physical chemistry classes, including chemical physics, quantum chemistry and thermodynamics.
Differential Equations

Differential Equations

I earned an honors math degree and have taken multiple different courses on differential equations, along with using them extensively in physics and research. I would be happy to help you understand concepts, techniques, and applications.
Discrete Math

Discrete Math

I earned an honors degree in mathematics and have been tutoring math since 2017. For discrete math, I took several discrete math classes in college and have worked through several research projects involving different aspects of discrete math. In teaching I focus on covering principles and applying them to particular situations so students understand it easily.
Geometry

Geometry

I earned an honors undergraduate degree in mathematics, and I have extensive tutoring experience for many different math classes (often geometry) over the course of the last few years. I am very comfortable teaching geometry and primarily focus on helping students understand the conceptual setup of the class, before moving onto the math skills of problem solving.
Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra

I've taken several linear algebra courses, computational and proof-based, and understand the topic inside and out, particularly in its applications to physics and relevancy there. Very skilled in reducing the complicated ideas, equations, and problem-solving process into manageable concepts.
Physical Science

Physical Science

With a strong, graduate-level math and physics background, I can help you build confidence and learn the material for every class in the undergraduate physics curriculum. I earned honors B.S. degrees in physics and mathematics, including research in quantum thermodynamics and graduate classes in classical, quantum, stat. mech., etc.
Physics

Physics

With my background at the graduate level in physics and math, I can help you build confidence and learn the material for every class in the undergraduate physics curriculum. I earned Honors B.S. degrees in physics and mathematics, including research in quantum thermodynamics and graduate classes in classical, quantum, stat. mech., etc.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I earned honors undergraduate degrees in mathematics and physics. I've been tutoring pre-calculus for 6 years, I deeply understand the concepts, and my number one priority for you as a student is to help you understand the concepts and feel comfortable with any question that this class will give to you.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

Bachelor's in Honors Math. I have experience tutoring math for years, at all levels from 8th grade to college senior mathematics. I especially prefer to focus on helping you understand the ideas and intuition behind any sort of math problem, allowing you to solve things yourself and understand it at a very deep level.

Knowledgeable, understanding, and excellent tutor!

I currently go to John for Physics tutoring and he is outstanding! I come out of each session knowing more about Physics and with skill sets that allow me to solve my classwork and homework problems. He is able to break down step by step how to solve certain problems and how to approach different situations using certain equations. He is overall a great tutor and I greatly appreciate his help!

Very helpful with detailed explanations

Provided help with homework and past quiz/test questions in Linear Algebra. Gave great insight into each problem and asked if I understood or explained deeper if I was confused.

operators, Bohr model, eigenfunctions,eigenvalues

Good tutor breaks lesson down very easily. Was able to understand lesson . Great job. Was able to understand definitions and concepts of quantum chemistry

Insanely good

John is incredibly helpful. He breaks down concepts to their fundamental level, and he always ensures that you understand the actual concepts when working through problems. He is incredibly patient, and has never seemed frustrated even when a concept wasn't really clicking with me. I missed almost a month of classes due to health issues, and I still had to take my final exam anyway. I did 4 lessons with John to cover as much missed material as possible, and I ended up getting a perfect 100% on my PHYS 201 final. Great value and a great experience. Would highly recommend!
