I enjoy tutoring because I am able to see students make faster progress while working one on one. I also enjoy seeing students become more confident in a subject that they tend to struggle in. To help students make progress I try to use different approaches that I have learned in through practical experience in the classroom or through research. Most of the students who I have worked with have made tremendous improvements with their grades.
I have taught math for 6 years and I have experience working with place value, adding two and three digit numbers, subtracting two and three digit numbers, measurement, time and story problems. My classroom has made sufficient gains on their standardized tests every year.
I am an outstanding vocabulary tutor because I realize how important vocabulary acquisition is in helping students become better readers. I am currently taking a course called Victorious Vocabulary Instruction for Remarkable Reading. Since taking the course, I have learned the importance of using art and helping students identify synonyms to help them improve their vocabulary. I incorporate code-switching as a tool to help students improve their vocabularies. It is important to encourage students to use the language they feel most comfortable with and stress the importance of using academic language in certain contexts.
