About Nicole

Bio

I am passionate about learning and extremely patient, and will celebrate every success. I understand that students have different learning styles and my need to hear things explained several different ways before they understand it. Many students have told me over the years that they didn't like science before they had my class or they thought they were no good at math before my class.

I am passionate about learning and extremely patient, and will celebrate every success. I understand that students have different learning styles and my need to hear things explained several different ways before they understand it. Many students have told me over the years that they didn't like science before they had my class or they thought they were no good at math before my class.

I like to use analogies of more familiar things to illustrate abstract science concepts, and use concrete examples for math skills (sharing for division for example). I use examples and a lot of questioning of students to understand their thinking to identify their difficulties or misconceptions. This questioning also models the self-questioning students need to develop and helps them identify their learning patterns and thought processes.

I have been a classroom teacher of various high school and middle school science and math courses for 14 years and have also tutored elementary reading, middle and high school math, biology, and chemistry, and some college pre-calculus.

I'm a certified secondary math teacher. I have six years experience teaching math, including ACT prep. I am very patient and will try different approaches to find what works best for each learner.

Amazing with HS Bio

Nicole was able to relate vocab words of Bio with other things important to my daughter so she could learn instead of just memorize:) She did a wonderful review as well after the lesson. My daughter knew her exact weaknesses.
