Experienced Algebra Tutor

Shahanaz M.

Hello! I am a sophomore pursuing a Pre-Engineering Associate degree and currently maintain a 4.0 GPA. My academic background is heavily focused on mathematics, science, and engineering. I have completed advanced coursework through Differential Equations and have developed a strong foundation in subjects such as algebra, calculus, physics, and problem solving. As a student myself, I understand that many STEM concepts can feel overwhelming at first, and I enjoy helping others develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed.

My teaching experience includes serving as an Engineering Teaching Assistant, where I helped students understand course material and worked with them to strengthen their problem-solving abilities. I have also worked as an Astronomy Research Assistant, which has given me experience applying mathematics and scientific reasoning in a real research environment. In addition, I have volunteered more than 50 hours leading SAT Math boot camps for small groups of students and have provided paid tutoring in algebra and middle school mathematics through Varsity Tutors.

When tutoring, my goal is not only to help students arrive at the correct answer but also to help them understand the reasoning behind each step. I adapt my teaching style to each student's needs and focus on creating a supportive environment where questions are encouraged. Whether a student is preparing for an exam, working through homework assignments, or trying to build a stronger foundation in math, I strive to make challenging concepts clear, manageable, and approachable while helping students gain confidence in their abilities.
