Hello! I’m Dr. Udana Vijayageetha Ariyaratne, a Ph.D.-trained Biochemist with over seven years of experience in molecular biology, enzymology, and biochemical research and education. I currently serve as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Wayne State University School of Medicine, where I investigate gene regulation, protein function, and developmental biology using zebrafish and molecular approaches.
Throughout my academic and professional career, I’ve had the privilege of mentoring and teaching undergraduate, graduate, and medical students in biochemistry, cell biology, and molecular biology. I’ve received multiple academic honors, including the Schaap Graduate Research Fellowship (2022–2023) and the Monbukagakusho Japanese Government Scholarship, recognizing both my research excellence and dedication to scientific education.
Subjects I Specialize In
Biochemistry (Enzymology, Protein Function, Metabolism)
Molecular Biology (DNA/RNA analysis, Gene Expression, Epigenetics)
Cell Biology and Developmental Biology
Experimental Design, Data Analysis, and Scientific Writing
My Teaching Approach
I tailor each session to the student’s background, learning goals, and pace. My focus is on helping students understand mechanisms, not just memorize facts—using visual explanations, problem-solving exercises, and real research examples to reinforce complex biochemical concepts. I emphasize critical thinking and scientific reasoning, ensuring students gain the confidence to apply their knowledge independently.
