I'm Erinn and I am a professional saxophonist and bandleader who performs throughout the Michigan area. I graduated from Wayne State University where I received my Bachelor's in Music Performance/Jazz Studies. While learning how to play the saxophone and jazz in high-school, there were many challenges. Looking back as a professional, I realize that there is much information about being a saxophonist and professional musician that I was not taught, either in high school or college. One of my goals as a private instructor is to bridge that gap.
I've been teaching private lessons for over 5 years with great success. My students excel in the bands and music groups they perform in outside of private lessons and often continue taking lessons long-term. In addition to teaching private lessons, I also visit schools throughout the Detroit and metro-Detroit area leading workshops, rehearsals and saxophone sectionals. I also speak publicly to students on topics such as "Jazz History" or "Life As A Professional Musician."
My goal with teaching is to provide instruction and information in a way that is fun, applicable, and allows each individual to find their uniqueness through music. My lessons start with exploring your interests and understanding and developing your music goals. Once we've identified what we are working towards, I tailor my instruction to help YOU meet YOUR goals because this is all about helping YOU being the BEST you can be!! In general, we will cover instrument fundamentals, (i.e. developing tone and scales), music theory (Jazz Theory if applicable), and learning various repertoire.
I believe that learning music is more than just playing an instrument or reading the ink on the paper. I want my students to learn how they can express themselves through the music in their own way. Music is and should always be fun!!
