As an instructor with a PhD in Chemistry, along with experience in college and high school science education. My aim is to ensure that not only ensure that students learn the scientific concepts, but to ensure that each student can become a successful leader by learning the necessary soft/non cognitive skills needed for success.

As an instructor, I typically try to figure what the student knows by asking probing question to lay the foundation that the student has in knowledge and then help the student build upon the foundation they have. What I also have done is to ensure student success by challenging them to apply the knowledge to real world applications to help make science relevant for them which ensures that they are more interested to learn about the material.

I also have worked with students to ensure they are successful in MCAT prep, by ensuring that they not only know the material, but they are able to apply the knowledge onto MCAT test questions through a strategy that ensures efficient time usage to ensure success on the MCAT.

I have also trained students in prepping for successful applications in health careers such as medical, DO and PA school by ensuring that they are able to connect their past to their future which shows the prospective program that they are a good fit for their profession and program they are applying to.

I am looking forward in helping students achieve their goals through collaborating with them to ensure success in the methodology they are attempting to take to achieve those goals.

Interview Prep

Interview Prep

As an Academic Consultant, I have trained students with interview prep skills by conducting one on one mock interviews with prospective students going into medical school. After each mock interview , I would give a verbal direct live feedback to every single student. During the feedback session I would teach the students how to connect their past to their future via structuring a response to every type of question that can be asked during an interview to ensure that the students are able to show that they are a good fit for the program and profession by communicating a clear and concise response based on the type of question. For example, if the student was asked a scenario type question, they would need to first mention what is the pressing issue, and talk about how and what information they need to make a decision, then they would come up with 3 possible outcomes from best to worse with a solution to each outcome using the if then structure. I have also given interview tips for many of my undergraduate learning assistants at MSU, including one that was conducting an interview for an early admission to medical school a few hours before her interview. Those tips did lead her to being admitted in the program she wanted.
MCAT

MCAT

As an expert working with an Academic Consulting Company, I was able to help students prepare a concrete realistic study schedule which factors in the score that they have in either the diagnostic exam or a previous MCAT score, along with other commitments which will give them the incentive to execute the the plan and score well on the exam. As a content expert in science due to my educational and research background, I am able to help the students connect the concepts to healthcare applications which is what the MCAT is testing them for. In addition, I am able to help the students come with a efficient and sound strategy based on active learning to answer any question on the MCAT starting from a strategic reading of the passage paragraph by paragraph and coming up with the main idea of each paragraph without getting bogged into the details, then identifying the type the of the question they are trying to answer before attempting to answer them.
Personal Statements

Personal Statements

As an academic consultant in a company that specilizes in advising for college and medical school apps. I ensure that students are able to connect their past and their futures to ensure that their application to a college or a health career program stand out. With this process, I collaborated with the students to come up with an outline that reflects the most important experiences that allows them to connect it to the program or profession that they are applying for. During this collaboration process, I brainstorm with the students about the experiences that they had in their past by asking them specific questions about impactful experiences they had. Then I taught them how to rate them based on the quality and quantity of tangable skills they learned from each one which can be applied to their future career. This helps them learn how to pick the 3 most impactful ones. Then I went over the structure of a personal statement from the introduction to body to conclusion. Then, I collaborated with them on forming an outline for their personal statement based on the experiences they chose. I have also done a line by line structural and narration review of personal statements along with giving examples of how to improve their personal statements.I have also successfully advised many of my undergraduate learning assistants at MSU on how to successfully score an admission to medical schools. This lead to the student speaker at the commencement acknowledging how my work with him has helped him successfully score interviews for DO schools and subsequently gaining admission to them. As part of this process I have also done mock interviews to ensure that their oral communication skills stand out which leads to successful interviews.
