I am the tutor/teacher you are looking for. I have a gift for finding innovative ways to make confusing subjects not only make sense to my students, but come to life in many ways.
I think that every student learns in a different way, and I strive to find and use their strengths to help build their confidence and skill level. Your student CAN accomplish anything, and they will be confident in that after working with me.
I have an extensive background as both a tutor and a teacher. I have worked as both a tutor and a teacher with age groups of 3 - 4 year olds, all the way up through teaching college level classes. I have worked in many tutoring environments ranging from government programs to help raise test scores in schools who were not meeting the ‘No Child Left Behind’ criteria, to working as a tutor at Baker College in their writing center where I was also a professor.
I have a teaching degree for grades 6 and higher. I have specialties in both History and Social Studies. I also have a graduate degree in History as well. I earned both of these at Eastern Michigan University.
I have taught various History, Geography, Sociology as well as the occasional English class.
I also work full time teaching English as a second language to students in Korea. I have also worked with Latino English language learners as well as English language learners from the Middle East area.
All first meetings must be done in person.
I have severe allergies to cigarette smoke and strong perfumes, and if there is a heavy smoker in the house or someone who wears a lot of perfume I may ask that tutoring sessions be held at a local library or other appropriate venue on a regular basis.
