I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Ferris State University with a 3.81 G.P.A and a Master’s Degree in Reading from Marygrove College with a 3.97 G.P.A. During my time as a reading teacher, I specialized in teaching students multisensory phonemic awareness, multisensory decoding and encoding strategies, memory technique for non-phonemic words, and increasing their fluency.
Although I enjoy teaching in the general education classroom, I developed a passion for teaching struggling students how to read. In 2014, I received my Comprehensive Orton Gillingham Plus Certificate from the Institute for Multi Sensory Education (IMSE) in Southfield, Michigan. To advance my skill in Orton Gillingham, in 2019 I received a Structured Literacy Tutor (Orton Gillingham) Certificate from Children’s Choice Initiative in Bay City, Michigan. This additional training was focused on the purest form of Orton Gillingham. Using my training, I have taught Orton Gillingham in a Title I Reading classroom and tutored students after school. I have also tutored online from multiple states from my home. At the request of my administraters, in 2020 I received a Structured Literacy Teacher Trainer (Orton Gillingham) Certificate. With this training, I have trained teachers within my school district on the Orton Gillingham approach. Orton Gillingham is a direct, systematic, multi-sensory teaching strategy focused on students that struggle with reading.
As your tutor, I will individualize each lesson to meet your child’s needs using the Orton Gillingham approach. I will also answer any questions and educate parents and their children in the aspects of Dyslexia. At times, it is necessary for children with Dyslexia to receive accommodations which I will offer assistance and recommendations.
