I’m Renee! I am a current high school science teacher with 26 years experience teaching AP biology. I have a Bachelors Degree in Biology and a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I have tutored my own AP biology students after school for years and began teaching AP biology students from other schools last year in a one on one setting. I did so both in person as well as remotely. I have a passion for teaching and the subject of biology!

Because of my experience teaching over one thousand AP biology students through the years, I bring expertise to tutoring AP biology. I have first hand experience teaching the material and preparing students for the AP exam. I have insight into the style and format of test questions in addition to the content. My students have always performed much better than the state and national averages on the AP biology test in May.

There is a lot of content and skills students need to learn to be successful in AP Biology. My tutoring style is to allow the student to lead with concepts they are struggling with and I will base our session around those concepts. That way the time we have together is laser focused on what the student actually needs. For example, the students may need concepts explained to them, help with understanding a lab or homework, or help with practice questions. If I know these ahead of time, I can bring practice activities or lessons that I have used in my own classroom to enrich what the student has done in their own class. Having difficulty in a course means you are learning something new! Learning doesn’t begin until you don’t understand.
