I have been helping students with classes from calculus to German to chemistry both in the classroom and one-on-one for more than ten years, ranging across teaching experience at the high school and collegiate level as well as individual lessons for students from 11 to their 30s. I have been helping students with classes from calculus to German to chemistry both in the classroom and one-on-one for more than ten years, ranging across teaching experience at the high school and collegiate level as well as individual lessons for students from 11 to their 30s. I bring a wide variety of experiences to these efforts, in particular a record of deeply thinking about standardized test prep. I was the State AP Scholar (most AP exams passed) for Michigan, passing more than 20 AP exams with a score of a 5, including Calculus BC. I also scored a perfect 36 on the ACT, and attained scores in the 99th percentile on the GRE and GMAT. I hold several master's degrees, and I am currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Michigan.

I've worked with students ranging from middle school through to candidates for graduate degrees, and have always aimed to meet them where they are with their questions. I apply the learning from my breadth of experience with various types of material and assessment to help them reach their goals. I strive to provide each student with a personalized learning experience. In order to accomplish that, I regularly construct multiple explanations in order to match their learning approach and regularly evaluate uptake of the material by working through examples both together and independently. Drawing on my experience in leading both classroom sessions and one-on-one lessons, I aim to always put material in a context that helps students to build a narrative of learning, helping them to retain material when they turn to the next topic.

I am an advocate of helping students to build not only a concrete grasp of the material at hand, but also a toolbox of intuitions for problem types so that they are able to tackle work independently. As I tell my students, part of my job as a tutor is to make myself unnecessary; if I succeed, then my students no longer need me. I am proud to say that I have seen many mentees grow into independent problem solvers over my years of tutoring.

MCAT

MCAT

I was one of the first people to take the current format of the MCAT, scoring in the 95th percentile in my single sitting (129/129/131/128) after only a small amount of dedicated study. I attribute this to the combination of strong grasp of the material fundamentals (I hold a Master's Degree in Biomedical Engineering) and extensive experience with standardized testing that I have. Since sitting the MCAT, I have incorporated it into the list of topics with which I have been helping students--focusing on exactly those two components: strong conceptual knowledge of the material wedded to a well-formed strategy for taking the test itself. I have experience teaching the full range of MCAT material in classroom environments as well as in one-on-one lessons for ten years and more.
Personal Statements

Personal Statements

As a PhD candidate in the humanities at the University of Michigan, I spend a great deal of my time engaged with the written word. I have spent several years as a consultant at one of the university's writing clinics, helping students (including many ESL students) to polish their application statements for graduate and professional programs (including many who have gone on to medical, business, and law school). I also have years of experience assisting high school students with college admissions essays at every stage, from developing a concept of their personal narrative on through to final editing for clarity and writing mechanics.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

I hold an MBA from a top-ten US business school, an environment that trained me in extemporaneous speaking. I also have experience in the management consulting industry, which has given me the opportunity to hone the speaking skills that I have developed in more than half a decade of teaching in higher education. I have practical knowledge in public speaking to groups, but also years of experience mentoring individuals in how to shape presentations and personal narratives.
Speech

Speech

As a doctoral candidate in the humanities and an MBA holder, I have extensive experience both preparing and giving spoken presentations. I also have years of experience as a consultant at the University of Michigan's English Language Institute, specifically in the speech and writing clinics, where I have helped many students, including ESL learners, to improve their speech techniques and confidence. I also have years of experience as a foreign language teacher, giving me a background in helping students to not only master the mechanics of speaking (such as accent development, rhythm, and intonation), but also in recovery from speech breakdown through techniques like mnemonic recall and circumlocution.
