About Shannon

Bio

I went to school at Western Michigan University from 2007-2013 in order to pursue a teaching degree in Spanish and English Language Arts for middle school and high school-aged students.

While there, I was fortunate to be able to interact with a variety of student types in both middle and high school settings at several locations.

I also have found that I have a budding passion for DSLR photography, especially of nature photos and the changing seasons.

I love reading any and all material and love having literature discussions with students to see what they think of the texts we have both read. It gives me great pleasure to see when a student discovers something new in a test they haven't previously seen or understood.

I not only have experience teaching basic prealgebra skills to students of middle school age, but also I worked in a summer program and had one-on-one experiences with students who needed to review prealgebra techniques or they were in a class to learn concepts early on before the next school year began. I also specifically worked with a couple of ESL students while directly working with math terminology and practice problems.

I studied the Spanish language at Western Michigan University for 5 years as well as took initiative to live in a foreign country (the Dominican Republic) so I could push myself to really practice speaking the language. On top of this, I learned a lot of cool things about the culture in this country which I would be delighted to share and teach with your child!

I worked as a foreign English/Language arts teacher in the Dominican Republic where I worked with students in middle school and high school aged-groups on different aspects of grammar, literature, and reading throughout the school year.
