Hi! My name is Tanya. I have twenty years of professional experience as a writing coach, editor, journalist, and college instructor of English composition and creative writing. I am a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. I also hold a master of fine arts degree in creative writing from Pacific University.
I taught college English for more than five years through in-person and online formats. I very much enjoyed teaching both academic and creative forms of writing, including personal essays; research writing; literary analysis; and fiction, memoir, and poetry writing. I made one-on-one time with my students a priority by holding individual conferences several times a semester to facilitate their success.
I remain devoted to working individually with writers of all backgrounds and experience levels today. As a writing coach and editor, I assist writers with their book manuscripts, short stories, and essays, giving guidance through video conferencing and in-depth written feedback.
I am happy to work with high school students, undergraduate transfer students, and graduate school candidates who are writing college admissions essays. We will have an opening conversation and make a game plan. I can help to brainstorm ideas to spark your personal story. And I will be that second set of eyes throughout, offering constructive feedback along the way. I will guide you through the creative process and help you to use storytelling techniques to make your essays stand out. You will also learn how to organize your material and make it concise and insightful. Once you have a well-developed core story, we can work on polishing sentences and on other final touches.
