I am a certified English teacher with a BA in Journalism and Political Science, a BA in Education, and an MA in English & Creative Writing. After working as a journalist for more than 15 years, I transitioned into teaching. I have taught English in a traditional classroom and online for students grades 10-12. For the past eight years I have taught online high school through the Michigan Virtual Academy, and in person as an adjunct professor at Oakland Community College where I teach Composition I & II classes. I am also a certified AP Language & AP Literature teacher, and have served as an AP Reader for the College Board.
I am passionate about helping my students develop their skills as writers and readers through collaborative and engaging activities. I believe in a growth mindset philosophy where every student--regardless of their skills and backgrounds can succeed if given the right opportunities. Most importantly, I am a strong proponent of encouraging critical thinking and a love of learning using creative strategies and multimodal tools.
