"WITH CLOSE TO TWENTY YEARS OF EXPERIENCE in an educational setting, Bobbi has a firm grasp of course curriculum and how to navigate it, as well as a deep love for her students; her goal is always to help them succeed and I highly recommend her!!!" Naomi P., Bloomfield Hills, MI.

I have worked in the Bloomfield Hills School District for almost twenty years assisting students, kindergarten through high school, in their academic and social development while working in the General Education Resource Teacher department, English as a Second Language department and in the Learning Resource and Testing Centers in both high schools. In addition, I proofread essays, monitored goal work, created and revised subject-specific worksheets, and helped students organize their binders and backpacks in order to facilitate their assignments and projects being handed in on time. I wrote letters of recommendation for my college-bound seniors and continue to serve as a proctor for the annual ACT and MME exams. I also attended several classes each day to take notes and help students understand the material.

In the elementary grades, I ran the Accelerated Reader program, assisted in our Reading Recovery program, and worked with individuals and small groups of students to augment their classroom instruction with both remedial and advanced tutoring. While earning my degree in Social Work, I interned in the Special Education Program at Wing Lake School, and at the Sanctuary in Royal Oak. I have been an active participant in the Special Education community for over forty years, and recognize and appreciate the abilities of students with different needs. I am familiar with the IEP and MET process.

I work diligently with high regard for the standards of the school district and the diverse communities of which it is a part and respect the confidentiality of my students and their families. You will find me to be an excellent candidate for your tutoring needs.

Approved Subjects

Common Core

Common Core

I am familiar with The Common Core State Standards for Language Arts and Literacy in Social Studies, Science and the Technical Subjects, and believe they are in place as a guide to prepare students for success after high school. As an educator in my district for over twenty years, I have learned on the job about The Standards, and strive every day to incorporate them into my students’ coursework and practice. Because The Standards emphasize critical thinking and problem solving, and the effective use of language in all its dimensions including reading for comprehension and enjoyment, speaking to an audience and writing across the curriculum, I implement these principles as a part of my tutoring as well in order to develop well-rounded, involved students.
Cooking

Cooking

I have always loved to be creative in the kitchen and began cooking when I was less than ten years-old. I learned the basics from my mother, and have added to my working knowledge every day for the past fifty years. I am a cooking consultant with a well-loved and well-known home-based corporation, and as such have discovered and implemented a great number of innovative techniques and delicious recipes. I love to share my expertise with children, teens and adults, and we all have fun in the process.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I am experienced in teaching the K-6 disciplines of Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies, and taught them for over ten years at two of my district’s elementary schools. I am passionate in sharing my interest and curiosity about all subjects, and employ strategies to assist students at their current levels and then help them move forward. I strive to promote a lifetime love of reading. I teach math facts, number sense, order of operations, fractions, time, money, and measurement. In science, I stress accuracy in observing, classifying, predicting, researching and experimenting. I model becoming an enthusiastic learner, respecting equipment and materials and taking an interest in our environment. In the study of our world, I am well versed in geography, economics, government and history; I teach interpretation of maps and graphs, current events, and how our world is made up of our families and local communities, our states, countries, and our continents. I bring students’ topics to life making the material easier to comprehend and retain. I practice writing throughout the curriculum and emphasize that in our global community, students must learn to communicate and participate in a knowledgeable, vocal, comprehensive and productive manner. While earning my degree in Social Work, I interned in the Special Education Program at Wing Lake School, and at the Sanctuary in Royal Oak.
Handwriting

Handwriting

I am proficient in assisting students as they master the skill of handwriting, demonstrate proper form and enjoy the process. I understand that beginning writers improve as their fine motor skills develop, and must have basic trunk and shoulder control. I have worked in K -12 for over twenty years as an educator helping students use their visual perception to assign meaning to letters and numbers and begin to understand the concept of the written word. We practice eye/hand coordination, copying printed and cursive letters, numbers, and sentences, and learn to recognize the variety of shapes involved and the significance of handwriting as an important means of communication.
Phonics

Phonics

In more than twenty years in education, I spent five years working with Reading Recovery students and others in an elementary setting. I worked with students at the basic level of learning the alphabet, consonant and vowel sounds, and using chunking as a strategy for piecing together blocks of letters and understanding the sounds they make. Together we went through the appropriate grade-level book several times with specific goals each time: to get a feel for what the book looked like inside, to view the words and their shapes, to point out chunks and sounds the student already knew, and to predict what the story might be about. Students looked forward to our sessions, and I was happy to be a part of this growth in their lives.
Social Studies

Social Studies

I have worked for the past several years in high school Government, U.S. History, World History and Economics classrooms on a daily basis taking notes and assisting students with understanding the concepts they are required to learn. I help with class assignments and individual and group projects and presentations. I assist students in keeping up with their varied homework in Social Studies and in studying for quizzes and tests, and also work with students who have fallen behind to help them catch up. I proctor Social Studies assessments and read them aloud to those who require it. On my own time, I tutor students in all types of Social Studies classes, and keep abreast of current events in our country and in the world.
Special Needs

Special Needs

In my job at Bloomfield Hills High School, I work every day with special needs students. I assist students with ADHD, Autism, EI, Anxiety Disorders, and OHI certifications, as well as those students who are Visually and Physically Impaired. We work on all types of subjects and classroom assignments including research projects, Prezi and PowerPoint presentations, reading and understanding lessons, books, and Internet articles. I am in several classrooms with my students taking notes and reviewing the material right along with them, and I am able to offer whatever help it is that they require. I have a strong bond with all of my students, and look forward to each new day at work. I understand much of the struggles students with these disorders deal with on a daily basis, and support them with patience, compassion, humor and knowledge.
Study Skills

Study Skills

Currently, I work with high school students on a daily basis and continue to be immersed in teaching and reinforcing personalized study habits, test-taking skills, and long-term project planning. I find what works best for each individual student’s learning style, and concentrate on motivation, focus, understanding, and the ability to apply the coursework for better retention. We focus on time-management as the backbone to our work on these skills, and I emphasize that good study habits will serve students now and throughout their lives. I am also an excellent organizer. I zero in on what can be done to best assist students with their planners, class notes, homework papers and completed assignments, and can solve the clutter and disorganization issue with smiles all around. I believe you will be very pleased with my services.
