I have 18 years of clinical experience that includes experience as a staff nurse, nurse supervisor, regulatory nursing, and Director of Nursing. Tutoring and teaching students of nursing requires a holistic approach to the subject, meaning that nursing is many things, which requires the subjects to be incorporated into one subject, nursing. I like to encourage repetition in learning. I use reverse teaching which means the student teaches the teacher. I believe the material can become embedded into memory when it is taught. I also encourage questions and may ask for the student to use resources to obtain the answer before I answer the question. I use resources and strongly encourage students to use any and all resources available to them to find answers. Finally I find out the student's best way of learning, such as a visual learner, listening learner etc. and use it to assist in understanding and retention of the material.
