I love photography and I have since I was 9 years old after receiving my first camera. Photography is a great and mis-understood medium-- taken for granted and seriously under-used. I teach by immersion/experiential since it is the most effective (as with anything new) and because it produces the best results that remain with the student forever. Have you ever eaten a pickle that hadn't been immersed in its brine?

Photography is not an art because of its use of a camera, but in its ability to change the way we see ourselves and our world. I teach camera work only as it relates to the production of the next photo, and not as an end in itself. "The mystery in the world is not in the invisible, but in the visible"-- Oscar Wilde. Photography makes the visible important.

Lesson are created for each individual depending other skill level and determination to excel. The speed of advancement is determined by the confidence of the student. While good things take work, better things also take patience.

Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop

I look forward to helping you with your photography or Photoshop problem in a way that will allow you to get exactly what you want from your photos. Photoshop is a great tool in itself but not without an experienced teacher with patience and understanding in how to think and see through the photo problems.
Photography

Photography

I have 25+ years of commercial photography experience involving many different styles and types of photography. I have also many years of teaching college level art/commercial photography courses at (but not limited to) Ringling School of Art and Design and Asheville Buncombe Community College. My skills on location/studio and my teaching style has benefited many students. It was always a pleasure to help them grow.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

My teaching experience has included the Universities of New Mexico, East Tennessee State and Western Carolina; I have also taught at Parsons in NYC, Mars Hill College, and the Ringling School of Art and Design in Florida. As s graduate student at the University of New Mexico, we had to write an M.A. thesis as well as a full dissertation in order to get our M.F.A., which was the studio equivalent of a PhD. Public speaking was a part of not only my style of lecturing, but also a requirement for me during my shows: I had to regularly talk about my work in public during the openings for my exhibitions.
Writing

Writing

Over the years I have written an MA Thesis, Dissertation and other formal prose. Daily writing also keeps me in good writing form for simple things to more complex essays.

Knowledgeable tutor

Sc kept it simple. Found out what I needed and cleared it up for me!! I was making it too complicated and what he told me helped tremendously about selection tools. Very pleased

Excellent and knowledgeable tutor of photography

After only one class, I am already far less intimated by my fancy camera. SC explains the concepts clearly and in a way that any novice can easily understand. I highly recommend him. Well worth the time and money.

Excellent, experienced and exceptional!

Sc was the first photography tutor I came across on Wyzant, and I knew I wanted him as my tutor as soon as I read his description. Not only does he have 20+ years of teaching college students photography, but he's been doing photography himself for almost his whole life, so he knows the history behind cameras and the way they have evolved. And he genuinely loves it! He knows the right questions to ask to really make you think - such as how do you see the world? How do you want to capture the way you see the world? Why do you want to become a photographer? These questions really sparked my self reflection and curiosity as I began my journey into the world of photography. He first taught me the three main variables of photography and gave me some homework to complete. On our next lesson, he reviewed my homework and helped me expand my knowledge even better with more aspects to consider during practice shoots. I am very thankful to have found such a great tutor through Wyzant. If you're looking for a great and insightful tutor, I highly recommend Sc!
