I'm a retired physics, chemistry and math teacher that taught over 34 years with the last 22 at Hinsdale South High School in Darien, Illinois. I have worked with all different age groups in high school teaching physics mostly and I taught summer school algebra I, algebra 2 and chemistry for over ten years at South. I was a certified tutor in college working with veterans and college physics students and I have taught Physics , Chemistry and College Algebra for over twenty-five years for College of DuPage, Joliet Junior College and Carl Sandburg Junior College. Since I retired in June I have tutored about thirteen different students in algebra, college algebra, geometry, chemistry and physics. My youngest student has been a seventh grade prodigy and the oldest being a single mom going back to school for her nursing degree.

My wife and I are both now retired and have moved permanently to our dream land in the UP. I have decided to start tutoring again as I miss the student contact and the pride that comes from helping someone do something they could not do before.

Approved Subjects

Homeschool

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

Algebra is basically language. The key is learning what you can and cannot do and it's a very comfortable and fulfilling subject to teach.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 is just taking algebra 1 and raising it to a bit higher level. All the answers are there and its fun to teach others how to get to them.
Chemistry,

Chemistry

Chemistry is the left and to physic's right hand. I enjoy it because it is the first science class that most people see with math included.
Geometry,

Geometry

I love geometry. If you look at the problems they are more like opportunities to show your skills and the more of them you do the easier they become.
Physics,

Physics

Physics was not only my major but also my favorite subject. I really enjoy watching students understanding how it works, I guess you could call those "light bulb" moments.
Precalculus

Precalculus

This is where algebra, geometry and trigonometry mingle together and form a multi level exercise in mathematics. I enjoy the challenge and try to impart that excitement to my students.

Math

ACT Math,

ACT Math

Once you understand how to do math then the ACT exam becomes more of a game of strategy to show that you really know how to do the math. I enjoy teaching thia part of the process.

Trigonometry

Trigonometry

An nice combination of geometry and algebra. A very useful skill to have for "real" life mathematics. A very appliable math for science and especially physics. Usually easy to teach and comprehend.

Phenomenal

When we first started, Mr. McGuire broke the ice by asking about the weather. I felt comforted by his friendly tone and patient attitude, even when I gave him vague answers to his questions. Together we worked on a difficult question my physics teacher had given to me the day before that involved friction, work, and energy. His assistance was top notch.
