A little about me: I grew up in the area and learned Spanish through an immersion program in FCPS. Because of this incredible immersive experience, I have continued my Spanish-language studies. A little about me: I grew up in the area and learned Spanish through an immersion program in FCPS. Because of this incredible immersive experience, I have continued my Spanish-language studies. I received the Bilingual International Baccalaureate Diploma from Marshall High School in 2016, the Virginia Seal of Biliteracy (2016), and I have just graduated UVA with Distinction as a Spanish and Global Development double major.
I have been tutoring and teaching English as a Second Language to Spanish-speakers since 2014 in Fairfax County and in Charlottesville, VA. While abroad in Spain in 2019, I taught and led an English as a Second Language (ESL) class and had an internship at an international film festival as an interpreter; translating films from English to Spanish and interpreting for English-speaking filmmakers. I do Spanish interpretation for DC-based immigration lawyers. I translate for nonprofit organizations providing social services to Latinx families in the DC/VA area.
My plans to teach English in Madrid for the year have been postponed but I am still eager to help bilingual students in my community!
Graduating with Distinction from the University of Virginia, my liberal arts coursework required interdisciplinary ways of studying, learning and presenting this knowledge. As a Global Development major, my courses emphasized writing, presenting, and reading intensive learning in our coursework. Additionally, I received the Bilingual International Baccalaureate Diploma (2016) where I concentrated in English Lang & Lit., Spanish Lang. & Lit., and History of the Americas. From 2012-2020, I have pursued an education that qualifies me to help students cultivate their own bilingual voices in academic reading, writing, and communicating.
